Rental Information

Hawaii's rental market is pretty tight when it comes to single family homes. One source for rental information can be found here.

Great Food Site: HawaiiDiner.com

I came across a great site called HawaiiDiner.com that looks very good. Included on this site are reviews of restaurants and updates on the latest happenings in the food and dining industry.

In addition to reviews, there are menus, a newsletter, and some seemingly interesting podcasts. The current podcast has a review of Mama's Island Pizza, newly opened in Kailua. Additionally, Kailua resident Wally Amos, of Chip and Cookie is interviewed on a previous podcast, go here for a listen.

There is even a list of Farmer's and Open Markets on Oahu. Great site--check it out!

Hawaiian Open Starts Today!

For those who follow golf, the Sony Hawaiian Open Starts today at Waialae Country Club. The big topic on everyone's mind will be whether Michelle Wie make's the cut.

For information on Oahu golf courses, click here.

Another great source of Hawaii golf informatin can be found here, including updates on the Hawaiian Open.

Hawaii Schools

One thing that is always a consideration for families moving, are the schools in the new community. Hawaii schools vary greatly by geographic area and one of the best sources of information is the Department of Education run by the state. Visit this link for the latest information.

Additional public school state of Hawaii Department of Education links are available here. Another site is the GreatSchools.net site for Hawaii. It can be seen by clicking here.

There are also a large number of private schools in Hawaii. Information for them can be found at this link.

Hawaii Military Communities: New Web Site

Hawaii Military Communities, LLC a division of Forest City Enterprises today launched a new web site at www.OMCliving.com designed for military families living in the Navy's family housing on Oahu.

The web site was developed to assist current and future military families living at McGrew Point, Halsey Terrace, Radford Terrace, Moanalua Terrace and Hokulani.

Bringing Your Pets to Hawaii

Hawaii used to have really restrictive pet quarantine laws. In fact, I recently talked with someone who said that as soon as the law changed, they moved to Hawaii, bringing their pets with them. The reason for the past restrictive laws: Hawaii is rabies free.

For the latest information, click here for updated information from the state of Hawaii.

For military families, I also came across this article from 2003 written in the Navy Newsstand. Also here is a nice pdf document from Family Services that details the steps required for bringing in pets.
